The Meruelo Family Center for Career Development (“CCD”) prepares students for lifelong career readiness by guiding them to discern, pursue, and achieve career goals that align with their values, interests, and skills. The CCD aspires to unite the Notre Dame community to inspire and prepare every student to pursue a life of impact and purpose. The Assistant Director plays a mission-critical role in the CCD.
The Assistant Director is accountable for ensuring every graduate student (master's and doctoral) enrolled in the College of Arts and Letters is actively engaged in career development activities. This includes tracking engagement, strategically partnering with faculty and administrators, creating best-in-class resources, meeting with students, and implementing tailored programs.
The Assistant Director provides career advisement, guidance, and consulting to graduate students in the College of Arts and Letters pursuing any career path, including postdoc, academic, industry, and other pursuits. This includes working with conducting job/internship searches, preparing CVs, resumes, and cover letters, and providing mock interviews. The Assistant Director serves as a member of the Center for Career Development team through teamwork and collaboration across all department functional areas of the CCD.
CAREER ADVISEMENT AND CONSULTATION - Conducts individual and group student appointments related to all career development topic needs, primarily career discernment. Advises students on various career paths, skills development, internship/full-time job search strategies, interview techniques, etc.
RESOURCE CREATION AND REFINEMENT - Research, develop, and implement best-in-class resources to ensure every graduate student in the College of Arts and Letters is equipped to manage their career development. This includes collaboration with CCD staff, employers, and alumni.
STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS AND ENGAGEMENT - Collaborate with faculty and staff in the College of Arts and Letters to ensure every graduate student is connected to the most appropriate career development resources, whether offered through the Center for Career Development, the College of Arts and Letters, the Graduate School, or other campus partners.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT - Develops innovative programs to ensure College of Arts and Letters students are provided the best available resources to advance their career development. This includes workshops, guest speakers, networking events, career fair preparation, and more, specifically tailored to students in the College.
SUPPORT OF CENTRALIZED EFFORTS - Participates in regular career counseling meetings and large departmental events and initiatives. Covers drop-in and exploding offer appointments as assigned. Participates in departmental programming (career fairs, etc). Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the success of the Center for Career Development, the Division of Student Affairs, the University, students, and other stakeholders.
SERVE AS A MEMBER OF STUDENT AFFAIRs - Regularly collaborates with other areas within the Division of Student Affairs (Campus Ministry, Residential Life, Sister Thea Bowman Center, Student Development, and Student Health and Wellness), student clubs and organizations, and other University units to enhance the department’s work building connections and relationships with students.
Salary: Up to $60,000
