Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Pastoral Counseling and Bereavement Services in the Brookdale Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, the Chaplain provides spiritual, religious, and emotional support to geriatrics and palliative care outpatients, their families, and clinic staff based in the Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine Fellows Ambulatory Clinic. As a member of our world-class department, the Chaplain cultivates collaborative relationships within the interdisciplinary team to enhance quality of life and optimize health care for older adults and individuals with serious illness.

• Deliver expert chaplaincy care: perform spiritual assessments, provide tailored interventions, and monitor outcomes. 
• Provide longitudinal spiritual support for patients and families facing symptoms, existential distress, trauma, coping, adjustment, isolation, and end-of-life issues. 
• Participate in goals-of-care and family meetings. 
• Organize and facilitate patient and caregiver support groups. 
• Consult and coordinate with hospital chaplains, community clergy, and community resources to ensure continuity of spiritual care. 
• Conduct visits across ambulatory and designated hospital settings. 
• Offer emotional and spiritual support to clinical and support staff. 
• Mentor and collaborate with geriatrics and palliative medicine fellows in outpatient education and practice. 
• Actively participate in interdisciplinary meetings, quality-improvement initiatives, and department projects. 
• Maintain accurate documentation and EHR charting. 
• Uphold professional standards, Mount Sinai policies, and the code of ethics for the chaplain’s certifying body. 
• Maintain board certification and demonstrate cultural competence, ethical insight, and exemplary communication and listening skills. 
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Master?s degree.
• Successful completion of four units of Clinical Pastoral Education in an accredited program.
• One (1) year of experience in a healthcare setting.
• Experience in geriatrics and palliative care preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, assessment, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
• Board Certified by the Association of Professional Chaplains; Neshama: the Association of Jewish Chaplains; The National Association of Catholic Chaplains; or the Spiritual Care Association.

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $67672.39 - $106370.48 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
