The Boston Chinese Evangelical Church (BCEC) is an established non-denominational evangelical church located in Boston's Chinatown, with an additional campus in Newton, Massachusetts. We are a multi-generational, multilingual Chinese heritage church consisting of six congregations: two English-speaking, two Mandarin-speaking, and two Cantonese-speaking.

The Position

The Ministry Assistant plays a vital support role at BCEC’s Chinatown Campus, working closely with Chinese-speaking pastoral staff to ensure the smooth and effective functioning of church ministries.

This highly visible, relationship-oriented position supports Sunday worship services, ministry programs, and church-wide administrative operations. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, culturally aware, and committed to serving God and His people with excellence.

The Ministry Assistant reports to the Office Manager and collaborates with Chinese pastoral staff as well as administrative and ministry team members.

Key Responsibilities

Chinese Ministry Support

  • Provide administrative support to Chinese-speaking pastors and ministry teams
  • Coordinate logistics for Sunday services and church events (e.g., worship teams, A/V, room setup)
  • Prepare weekly and special event bulletins (print and digital)
  • Translate and edit materials such as flyers, reports, and announcements (English ↔ Chinese)
  • Design and produce promotional and ministry materials using tools like Canva
  • Manage digital platforms, including YouTube, social media, and the Chinese-language website (via CMS)
  • Assist with visitor follow-up and outreach coordination
  • Maintain ministry records (e.g., membership, visitors, attendance, event participation)

General Administration & Office Support

  • Serve as receptionist at the Chinatown Campus
  • Manage office supplies, incoming mail, bulletin boards, and literature displays
  • Coordinate room reservations and facility usage
  • Support communication across staff, volunteers, and congregants across campuses
  • Collaborate with administrative and ministry teams as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required

  • Fluency in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English (spoken and written)
  • Proficiency in Chinese word processing
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and time management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Comfortable with technology and a quick learner with new systems and tools
  • Experience using content management systems (CMS), or ability to quickly learn CMS platforms
  • Detail-oriented, adaptable, collaborative, and professional
  • Culturally sensitive, with awareness of Asian American and bicultural church dynamics

Preferred

  • College degree or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in a church or nonprofit environment
  • Familiarity with tools such as ProPresenter and Canva
  • Basic skills in media, graphic design, or website publishing
