Job Description

Bookoff McAndrews (BoMc) is seeking a Computer Science Patent Attorney with 2-5 years of experience to join our firm. This is a remote position.  If candidates reside in the DC area, they are welcome to come into our DC office as often (or as little) as they like.

About BoMc:

We are a premier patent counseling firm, focusing on high-quality, strategic patent counseling and prosecution. We provide a respectful and collegial working environment centered on teamwork, flexibility, trust, humility, and a true investment in our Patent Attorneys, helping them to thrive in the firm and the greater legal community. What we offer is unique -- sophisticated, high-level legal work, and a supportive culture where people can thrive.

Our dedication to our practice and to our colleagues shows in the quality of our work and the accolades we receive.  Vault ranked us its 2025 #1 Best Midsize Law Firm to Work For, which includes #1 rankings across key benchmarks for “wellness,” "satisfaction," "firm culture," “associate/partner relations,” and "quality of work."  The Washington Post named us one of its 2024 Top Workplaces, and The Legal 500 recognized us as a top U.S. Patent Prosecution Firm.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Meeting with inventors and drafting patent applications for filing in the USPTO; prosecuting patent applications before the USPTO, including interviewing Examiners; working collaboratively with clients and other BoMc attorneys to develop and refine claim strategies;
  • Proactively managing a docket of cases the attorney has primary responsibility for, across a blend of clients from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies;
  • Assisting with other prosecution/counseling matters including: drafting noninfringement and invalidity opinions; and conducting due diligence investigations and performing freedom-to-operate and landscape analyses under the supervision of the firm’s partners; and
  • Post-grant proceedings before the USPTO, including Inter Partes Reviews.
About You:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or significant experience working in computer science;
  • 2-5 years of patent prosecution experience with a focus on computer science work;
  • Positive attitude toward client service;
  • Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and professional service skills (written and verbal);
  • Ability to multi-task, manage multiple priorities, and work in a team environment;
  • Self-starter with commitment to success and personal professional growth; and
  • Enjoy being involved in all aspects of a vibrant law firm team.
Compensation and Benefits:
  • The good-faith base salary range for this position is $165,000 - $205,000, plus competitive benefits.  The actual pay will be based on experience and other relevant factors permissible by law.
  • This position is eligible for three different bonus opportunities:
    • Trimester bonuses of up to an additional $15,000 for staying on track to meet your billable requirement.
    • End-of-year discretionary merit and productivity bonuses contingent upon meeting the billable requirement.
*Along with your resume, we also ask that each applicant submit a cover letter.  Law school and undergrad transcripts should be submitted either with the application or when contacted by the firm.
