Goodwin Brothers Construction Company has a career opportunity for a Heavy Industrial/Civil Construction Laborer. Required Qualifications: 

• Must be at least 18 years of age with a high scho ol diploma.
• This posting is open to Journeyman Laborers and Apprentices. To be considered as an Apprentice you must have:
  • 1+ years of  experience in a farming, manual labor, mechanical/machine shop, or construction work environment  
  • Prior experience in an outdoor job that worked in all weather conditions 
• Some experience in civil or heavy industrial construction is preferred
• Demonstrated ability to carry, lift, or hold building materials and use tools weighing 5 to 75 pounds
• Demonstrated ability to climb and work on ladders, a variety of surfaces, and heights
• Must be able to pass a drug test. Background checks are run on all new hires. 
• Member of the Laborers International Union of North America (LiUNA) or the ability to join.

A laborer is responsible for general laborer duties on a construction site such as handling materials, preparing the work site, and assisting tradespeople. This position must possess a basic knowledge of using and caring for small tools and equipment. This position must operate with a working knowledge regarding the operation of equipment required for basic tasks that may be performed. Laborers will perform jobsite clean up, loading, unloading or moving materials, digging trenches, compacting earth, assisting other union craft, and removing hazards. Job specifics include:

• Prepare construction sites by clearing obstacles and hazards.
• Operate various equipment, hand, and power tools applicable to the task.
• Effectively use layout tools and measurement tools.
• Load or unload construction materials, pipe, and equipment.
• Dig, spread, and level dirt and gravel, using pick, rake, shovel, etc.
• Consolidate concrete during placement
• Dig up existing pipes and lines.
• Prepare ground trenches for pipes and utility lines.
• Maintain an awareness of surroundings to ensure the safety of self and others when working around heavy equipment, and people at all times.
• Remove, fill, or compact earth.
• Assist all workers and perform daily job site housekeeping and cleanup.
• Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by supervisors.
