What We Look For In a SSAT- Middle Level Tutor - Advanced Test Mastery: Deep knowledge of SSAT Middle Level sections including Quantitative covering arithmetic, algebra, and geometry, Verbal covering synonyms and analogies, Reading Comprehension, and the Writing Sample for students in grades five through seven. Ability to explain scaled scoring, percentile rankings by grade and gender, and how schools evaluate SSAT results during admissions review.
- Strategic Test-Taking & Problem-Solving: Skilled at teaching the SSAT quarter-point penalty scoring strategy, vocabulary building techniques, and reading passage analysis for Middle Level examinations. Guides students through solving proportion and percentage problems, identifying word relationships in analogies, annotating passages for main ideas and tone, and writing compelling essay responses. Emphasizes strategic guessing decisions given the scoring penalty.
- Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with SSAT Middle Level content and common challenges such as advanced vocabulary beyond grade level, the scoring penalty for incorrect answers, and time management across five sections. Adapts instruction using official SSAT practice tests, systematic vocabulary programs, and section-specific timed practice to support fifth through seventh grade students seeking admission to selective independent schools.
- Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
