Overview
Looking for a rewarding part-time driving opportunity with flexible hours? Join the team at OCTA as a Transit Driver. This position is ideal for retired truck drivers, bus drivers or anyone who enjoys serving the community while staying active.

As a Transit Driver, you will safely transport passengers throughout the community while providing friendly and professional customer service. Drivers may assist passengers with disabilities or mobility issues. Paid training is provided to ensure safe passenger assistance and vehicle operation.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate transit vehicles according to an established schedule while following safety procedures, traffic laws and company policies
  • Keep accurate records of trips and passenger counts.
  • Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, including individuals with mobility challenges or special needs including securing wheelchairs and mobility devices when required
  • Provides first response, within the scope of training, to passengers requiring emergency medical assistance
  • Report any incidents or irregularities encountered during shifts
  • Follow all safety protocols and emergency procedures; respond appropriately to incidents or emergencies during transit operations
  • Assists passengers who exhibit behaviors that could result in physical injury and/or exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
  • Maintains professional ethics in keeping with the confidentiality of information and material accessed
  • Adheres to policies and standards as adopted by the County, contract agencies, and other governmental bodies as appropriate.
  • Maintain a clean and well-functioning vehicle by conducting pre-trip inspections and reporting mechanical issues promptly
  • Provide courteous customer service to all passengers.
  • Possesses a positive attitude and passion and support the mission of the agency and represents OCTA to the public in a positive manner.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must possess a valid Ohio Driver License (CDL or non-CDL) and pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Cannot be listed on the Ohio Abuser Registry.
  • Must pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol tests.
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR (prior to probationary period)
  • Must pass a defensive driving course (during training period)
  • Must possess strong communication and customer service skills
  • Must pass Department of Transportation-required physical.
  • Ability to assist passengers as needed including being able to push, pull or lift a minimum of 50 pounds and possess the ability to manually pump lifts if needed.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, squat and secure wheelchairs in tight areas and push/pull wheelchairs of various sizes in all conditions.
  • Ability to safely evacuate vehicles in a timely manner
  • Ability to clearly communicate on a two-way radio and mobile data computer.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to oral and written instructions
  • Dependable and safety-focused mindset
  • Familiarity with local traffic laws and safety regulations governing commercial driving
  • Must keep up with training requirements
