Job Summary

The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) Academic Standards, Instruction and Assessment Division is looking for an Education Consultant 3 - Reading Assessment Specialist to join the Test Development team. As a Reading Assessment Specialist you will provide direction, leadership, coordination, consultation and professional development to school districts and to the Academic Standards, Instruction and Assessment team to facilitate the development of the statewide reading assessment and implementation of state Academic Standards in English Language Arts and serve as the state expert and primary resource for K-12 reading assessment.

Telework

This position is eligible for hybrid telework. Employees living within 50 miles of the office location listed above will be required to work in the office at least 50% of the time each month. Employees may reside outside the state of Minnesota if they live in a state bordering Minnesota and are within 50 miles of the primary work location. Existing employees who were approved to telework from a bordering state and more than 50 miles from their work location before June 1, 2025, may retain this arrangement unless they move farther away.

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires:

  • Four (4) years of experience as a grades K-12 classroom educator. A Master’s degree may substitute for 18 months of experience; a Bachelor’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.
    and
  • A teaching license in elementary education or secondary English Language Arts
  • Experience in K-12 statewide assessment such as:
    • participation in or facilitation of educator assessment review committees,
    • messaging the purpose and use of statewide assessments results, or
    • development of items or constructing tests for statewide assessments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minnesota teaching license
  • Experience teaching the Minnesota Academic Standards in English Language Arts in grades 6-12;
  • Teaching experience in reading with all students, including multilingual learners and students with disabilities;
  • Skills and experience in standardized statewide test development, including knowledge of item development, test construction, and universal design;
  • Experience developing and facilitating professional development for educators around academic standards and assessments;
  • Experience with organizing and synthesizing large sets of data and information in spreadsheets and databases.
