Job Title: Retail Sales Associate

Pay: Starting at $16.00 per hour

Location: Hearts for the Homeless Thrift Store

Job Type: Part-Time 

Work Location: In store, Niagara Falls, NY

Job Summary

The Retail Sales Associate (RSA) plays a vital role in delivering an excellent shopping experience at the Hearts for the Homeless Thrift Store. This position supports all day-to-day retail operations, including customer service, register transactions, merchandising, store appearance, and collaboration with staff and volunteers. The ideal candidate is customer-focused, dependable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced retail environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet customers as they enter and exit the store in a friendly and professional manner
  • Provide high-quality customer service in alignment with company standards and scripts
  • Operate the cash register and point-of-sale system accurately, including cash and credit transactions
  • Assist customers with product questions and loyalty program sign-ups
  • Stock shelves and clothing racks to maximize shopping opportunities
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sales floor, fitting rooms, register area, restrooms, and other public areas
  • Remove unsold merchandise as directed and assist with inventory needs
  • Support store opening and end-of-day closeout procedures
  • Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers, providing clear direction when needed
  • Communicate customer service issues, register discrepancies, and operational concerns to management
  • Attend required trainings and staff meetings
  • Follow company policies, procedures, and code of conduct
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • 2 years of retail experience preferred
  • Experience working with volunteers is a plus
  • Reliable, punctual attendance with flexibility to work scheduled shifts
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 35 pounds
  • Basic computer skills, including POS systems, email, Microsoft Word, and Google Docs
  • Attention to detail and ability to reconcile daily receipts

Schedule

  • Monday through Saturday - Minimum of two Saturdays a month required
