As Global Technical Specialist for Cranktrain (Pistons, rings, connecting rod, crankshaft, bearings, damper, flexplate, etc), you will develop robust strategies to enable industry leading design and manufacturing of Cranktrain systems. You will maintain technical requirements for Cranktrain components and lead cross-functional teams and suppliers. These components must push the boundaries for performance, reliability, and quality while balancing cost, manufacturability, and global commercial strategy. The position requires strong technical and interpersonal skills and experience in propulsion systems design and interface applications.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities):
Lead and coordinate benchmarking efforts at a subsystem level to support definition of best practices, including a high level of engagement in Competitive Benchmarking Design Reviews (CBDR).
Build, develop, publish, and maintain documentation including Best Practices, SOR templates, DFMEA templates, and contribute to the Validation Cross Reference Index.
Participate in supplier technical reviews. Assess potential suppliers and supplier facilities on technical capabilities and maintain a Technically Approved Supplier List (TASL).
Participate in Enhanced Creativity Teams (ECT) and provide guidance to help drive supplier selection for new programs, including technical assessment of supplier designs and supplier capabilities.
Provide technical support to program teams, including Assistant Chief Engineers, and to Development Engineers, Validation Engineers, and Applications Engineers.
Maintain a high-level understanding of the Virtual Design, Development and Validation (VDDV) models and analysis methods.
Participate in the warranty reduction and quality improvement process, ensuring lessons learned are collected and documented. Support Brand Quality Managers with technical expertise and problem resolution assistance.
Support and drive interface application decisions to optimize propulsion system and vehicle performance, drive quality and manufacturing assembly processes.
Define design-tool needs and coordinate the development of new tools, new capabilities, and the maintenance of existing tools and databases.
Responsible for execution and closure in PRTS of Safety Tether, Quality Tether and PRD.
Strong support of the Safety Field Investigation (SFI) process.
Lead/Coach DFSS projects.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent.
10+ years of engineering experience
Strong background and knowledge of the design of propulsion systems.
Experience working with suppliers on Cranktrain Components
Proven ability to reach across organizational boundaries to garner support and deliver results.
Expertise in the design of integrated, cross functional systems
Excellent interpersonal skills to work with others.
Demonstrated leadership skills especially the use of influence.

Experience with calibration impacts on Cranktrain systems
DFSS Certification level of Black Belt or Master Black Belt
