Job Description

job summary:
A Technical Writer is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Fairport, NY area. This role involves creating, auditing, and managing technical manufacturing documentation for Advanced Optics, requiring a blend of project management and the ability to translate complex engineering processes into clear work instructions.

responsibilities:

  • Develop and improve technical work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and troubleshooting guides for manufacturing and engineering teams.

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) and engineers to gather technical details and ensure documentation accuracy.

  • Research and analyze complex technical information from multiple sources to create user-friendly content.

  • Edit and proofread all materials for clarity, consistency, and strict adherence to company style guidelines.

  • Manage documentation projects by planning schedules and tracking progress to meet strict deadlines.

  • Utilize MS Office and PTC Windchill to organize and maintain technical data and records.

  • Adapt to changing project requirements while working both independently and within a collaborative team environment.

  • Maintain a high level of attention to detail to ensure the quality and precision of technical manuals and job aids.
Skills:

  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Teams).

  • PTC Windchill system experience is a plus.

  • Ability to understand technical processes being documented.

  • Optics knowledge is a plus.

  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.

  • strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality in all documentation produced.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, adapting to changing project requirements and deadlines.
Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, communication, technical writing, engineering, or science fields. (minimum required).

  • 3+ years of technical writing experience, manufacturing environment experience preferred.
