Position Title: Youth Pastor

Bethel Baptist Church , founded in 1840, is a warm and loving rural community church in  Prosperity, South Carolina , near the shores of Lake Murray. With deep historical roots, we are committed to helping our community flourish and to being a shining light for the gospel of Jesus Christ for generations to come.

We are seeking a  Youth Pastor to lead and disciple middle and high school students under the supervision of the Senior Pastor while partnering with parents to support faith development at home. This role works closely with the Senior Pastor and church leadership to strengthen youth ministry and equip the congregation for family discipleship. Candidates should be passionate about guiding youth, fostering spiritual growth, and building strong connections with families and the broader church community. 

Ideal candidates will be recent graduates or soon-to-be graduates (e.g., junior-year students) and may be considered for either a direct hire or a one-year internship with the potential for full-time placement.

This position has opened following the retirement of our longtime Senior Pastor and the promotion of our Associate Pastor of Family Discipleship into that role.

Primary Responsibilities

• Oversee and provide leadership to all age-graded coordinators (e.g., nursery, children, youth, etc.)
• Coordinate and implement youth ministry activities and weekly youth group meetings
• Recruit, train, and develop teams of parents and other lay members to serve in age-graded ministries
• Serve as the primary Bible teacher for youth ministries
• Plan and manage a calendar of events that promotes spiritual growth and community among children, youth, and their families
• Plan and conduct evangelistic and service events that engage youth and families in outreach to the unchurched in the community
• Prepare and present budget requests for all age-graded ministries, manage expenditures, and ensure financial accountability
• In partnership with the Senior Pastor, plan and implement multi-generational discipling strategies across the church
• Ensure the safety of all age-graded ministries by inspecting facilities, evaluating workers and volunteers, and facilitating background checks for those serving in these areas
• Develop and share annual reports with the Senior Pastor, Deacons, and church, highlighting the successes, attendance, engagement, milestones, and other key data related to youth and family ministries

Qualifications

• A growing and mature relationship with Jesus Christ
• Meets the biblical qualifications for church leadership as found in 1 Timothy 3:1–7 and Titus 1:6–9
• Adherence to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000
• A clear calling to minister to youth and families
• Agreement with the doctrine, mission, and values of Bethel Baptist Church
• Theological training or a degree in ministry is preferred
• Experience working with youth and families in a church setting preferred
• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
• Ability to work well in a team-oriented ministry environment

Compensation

Annual total compensation package for direct hire: $54,900
If hired as an intern, the schedule will typically be Wednesday and Sunday, and compensation will be adjusted accordingly
