Location: Kansas City, MO

Position Summary

The IT Systems Developer I/II is responsible for the development, configuration, integration, support, and optimization of our Customer Information System (CIS), Cayenta.

This role supports core CIS functional areas including billing, collections, customer care, and analytics. The position also provides technical support and enhancements for the customer portal (MyMeter), system integrations with the Meter Data Management (MDM) system, Fusion Financials and Work Management System (Maximo), and enterprise reporting using IBM Cognos Analytics.

The successful candidate will work closely with Customer Service, Billing, Finance, Metering, and Operations teams to ensure accurate data flow, reliable system performance, and a high-quality customer experience. Ideal candidate will have development experience in Cayenta or similar customer care and billing system.

Key Responsibilities

CIS Development & Support

  • Configure, develop, and maintain enhancements within the Cayenta CIS platform.
  • Support functional areas including:
    • Billing and rate configuration
    • Payment processing
    • Collections workflows
    • Customer service processes
    • Analytics and data inquiries
  • Troubleshoot system issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Support system upgrades, patches, and change management processes.
  • Maintain technical documentation and configuration records.

Integration & Interface Management

  • Develop, monitor, and support integrations between:
    • CIS and Meter Data Management (MDM) systems
    • CIS and Work Management Systems (Maximo)
    • CIS and the MyMeter customer portal
  • Support APIs, web services, batch processes, and automated jobs.
  • Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and reconciliation across systems.

Customer Portal Support

  • Support functionality and enhancements within the MyMeter portal.
  • Collaborate with business teams to improve digital self-service features.
  • Investigate and resolve customer-facing billing and usage discrepancies.

Reporting & Business Intelligence

  • Develop and maintain operational, financial, and utility reports using IBM Cognos Analytics.
  • Create dashboards and ad hoc reporting solutions for business stakeholders.
  • Ensure data consistency between CIS transactions and enterprise reporting systems.
  • Support audit and regulatory reporting requirements.

Collaboration & Process Improvement

  • Partner with business units to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system automation, performance, and efficiency.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects related to system enhancements and digital transformation initiatives.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise applications.
  • Experience with utility Customer Information Systems; Cayenta experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience developing reports in IBM Cognos Analytics or similar BI tools.

Technical Skills

  • Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases.
  • Experience with:
    • API integrations (REST/SOAP)
    • Batch processing and job scheduling
    • Data mapping and ETL processes
    • System configuration within enterprise platforms
  • Understanding of utility industry systems including:
    • Meter Data Management (MDM)
    • Work Management Systems (EAM)
  • Familiarity with SDLC methodologies and IT change management practices.
